The full engine is Apache 2.0 and runs on your laptop or in your cluster. Forever. No feature is held hostage to force a hosted upgrade - what's free in OSS stays free in OSS.

Transparent

Public per-cluster prices. No "contact sales" for the second tier. No per-seat trap that punishes you for letting more teammates look. Annual gets 20% off, that's the whole pricing model.

Pay for hosting, not for the product

Hosted plans charge for things only a hosted version can offer well - long retention, fleet-scale auth, an SLA, governance. Core product features ship in OSS and Cloud Free alike.

What's the difference between self-hosting (OSS) and Radar Cloud?
The open-source engine is Apache 2.0 and has everything you need to see one cluster at a time from your laptop or a shared in-cluster deploy — topology, resources, Helm, image filesystem, cluster audit, MCP integration. Radar Cloud is the hosted multi-cluster control plane on top of that: fleet views, long event retention, SSO, RBAC, Slack/PagerDuty alerts, and an SLA. You can run OSS forever for free. You pay when you want hosted convenience or the multi-cluster, long-retention, enterprise-auth features. See the full comparison on the Open Source page.
Can I use Radar OSS and Radar Cloud together?
Yes. Many teams run OSS Radar locally for a specific on-call engineer's laptop, while the team's shared fleet view lives in Radar Cloud. The two are interoperable - Radar Cloud uses the same OSS Radar binary with a cloud-sync flag, not a fork. Settings, keybindings, and views carry over.
Why per-cluster pricing instead of per-user?
A visibility tool gets more valuable when more people look at it. Per-seat pricing punishes that. Your pager rotation, your on-call engineer, your manager running a post-mortem — all of them should have access without a procurement conversation. Per-cluster tracks the actual cost of running Radar, and it aligns with the thing you care about: how much infrastructure you're monitoring.
What counts as a cluster?
Any Kubernetes cluster you connect to Radar via our Helm chart. A cluster is a cluster — no games around node count, control-plane type, or managed vs self-hosted. EKS, GKE, AKS, kOps, kubeadm, k3s, even kind clusters all count the same.
Do you offer discounts for startups, OSS projects, or academic institutions?
Yes to all three. Email radar@skyhook.io with a one-liner about your project. We want to keep the tool accessible to teams doing interesting work.
Is my cluster data sent to Radar?
Only the metadata needed to render topology, timelines, and resource views. No container logs, no secret values, no pod stdout. Radar filters at the source. For teams with stricter requirements, Enterprise offers BYOC deployment - data never leaves your cloud account.
What if I want to switch back to self-hosted?
Uninstall the Helm chart. Your clusters disconnect from Radar. You keep running OSS Radar as normal. We don't lock your data in — you can export event history and configuration at any time.
How does billing work?
Monthly billing based on the peak number of connected clusters in the month. If you connect and disconnect a cluster the same day, it counts once. Annual contracts get a 20% discount. Enterprise is invoiced annually.
