The full engine is Apache 2.0 and runs on your laptop or in your cluster. Forever. No feature is held hostage to force a Cloud upgrade - what's free in OSS stays free in OSS.
Transparent
Public per-cluster prices. No "contact sales" for the second tier. No per-seat trap that punishes you for letting more teammates look. Annual gets 20% off, that's the whole pricing model.

What's the difference between Radar OSS and Radar Cloud?
The open-source engine is Apache 2.0 and has everything you need to see one cluster at a time from your laptop or a shared in-cluster deploy - topology, resources, Helm, image filesystem, cluster audit, MCP, Diagnose with your own agent. Radar Cloud adds a control plane on top, hosted by us or run on your infrastructure with Self-Managed: alerts when something breaks, AI investigations with evidence, any view shared by link under your existing RBAC, the whole fleet in one view, and history kept after Kubernetes deletes it. You can run OSS forever for free. You pay per cluster when the team wants that. See the full comparison on the Open Source page.
Can I use Radar OSS and Radar Cloud together?
Yes. Many teams run OSS Radar locally for a specific on-call engineer's laptop, while the team's shared fleet view lives in Radar Cloud. The two are interoperable - Radar Cloud uses the same OSS Radar binary with a cloud-sync flag, not a fork. Settings, keybindings, and views carry over.
Why per-cluster pricing instead of per-user?
A visibility tool gets more valuable when more people look at it. Per-seat pricing punishes that. Your pager rotation, your on-call engineer, your manager running a post-mortem — all of them should have access without a procurement conversation. Per-cluster tracks the actual cost of running Radar, and it aligns with the thing you care about: how much infrastructure you're monitoring.
What counts as a cluster?
Any Kubernetes cluster you connect to Radar via our Helm chart. A cluster is a cluster — no games around node count, control-plane type, or managed vs self-hosted. EKS, GKE, AKS, kOps, kubeadm, k3s, even kind clusters all count the same.
What counts as one investigation?
One investigation is one issue taken to a root cause, counted when it starts. Follow-up questions and retries on the same issue are part of it (up to 50 turns), not new investigations, and one that fails on our side is not counted. Free includes 100 a month for the workspace; Team includes 100 and Enterprise 200 per paid cluster, pooled across the workspace, and every paid plan includes at least 200 a month. On Team and Enterprise, an owner can turn on additional investigations at $1 each, with a monthly limit; Free stops at its included amount until the next month or an upgrade. The count resets each calendar month.
Do you offer discounts for startups, OSS projects, or academic institutions?
Yes to all three. Email radar@skyhook.io with a one-liner about your project. We want to keep the tool accessible to teams doing interesting work.
Is my cluster data sent to Radar?
Radar reads your cluster from inside it. With Radar Cloud, what you open in the UI (resources, events, and logs when you view them) streams through the control plane to your browser without being stored. We keep the event and change timeline (up to 30 days), alert and issue state, your organization's audit log, and AI investigations, which include the specs, events and logs they read and are sent to our AI model provider. With Radar Cloud Self-Managed, all of this stays in your infrastructure, apart from any AI model or identity provider you connect and a daily license check-in that reports your cluster count.
Can I start hosted and move to Self-Managed later?
Yes, in either direction. Once your Self-Managed control plane is running, it lists your hosted Radar Cloud clusters and moves each one with a single command, or with Move it for me, which you approve in Radar Cloud. A moved cluster is billed once, at the same per-cluster price, and you can bring it back to hosted the same way. Alert rules, members and integrations stay in your hosted organization.
What if I want to switch back to Radar OSS?
Uninstall the Helm chart. Your clusters disconnect from Radar. You keep running OSS Radar as normal. We don't lock your data in — you can export event history and configuration at any time.
I subscribed before this pricing - what happens to my plan?
Nothing. Plans purchased before the current pricing keep their price and features for as long as the subscription stays active - we grandfather existing customers, and your Billing page keeps showing the plan you bought. New pricing applies to new subscriptions only.
How does billing work?
On each monthly billing date you're charged for the clusters connected to your workspace at that moment, for the month ahead - clusters added mid-cycle aren't charged until the next billing date. Annual plans prepay a year at a 20% discount; clusters added mid-year are charged pro-rata for the remainder of the year in a monthly true-up and join your annual commitment, which right-sizes at each renewal. Custom plans are invoiced annually.
